Frequently Asked Question!
What are microgreens?
They are young vegetable greens, which are harvested 7 to 14 days after planting. This makes them incredibly nutrient-dense, tender, and full of flavour. They are not to be confused with sprouts which have no leaves or baby greens which are much older.
How do you eat microgreens?
Microgreens can be used for garnishes or as the main ingredient of any dish you desire. They pack a lot of flavour, and usually resemble the taste of their fully grown vegetable. Microgreens allow you to introduce different flavours, colours and textures to food. You can eat them raw, cook them and even dehydrate them! From salad leaves to pesto – the best thing to do is get creative with them!
What makes microgreens so healthy?
As microgreens are babies ready to grow into bigger plants, they are full of all the vitamins and minerals required for growth. Research has shown they can contain up to 40 times the nutrients of mature plants. This leads to a variety of health benefits. Some varieties also contain large numbers of cancer-fighting phytochemicals.
Am I allergic to a specific microgreen?
Please seek advice from a doctor. However as a general rule, if you are allergic to the mature vegetable variety, then you will be allergic to its microgreen. Wheatgrass is an exception, as gluten does not form until the plant fruits meaning the microgreens contain no gluten. Wheatgrass is still not suitable if you are a celiac.
Are microgreens safe to eat raw?
Like other vegetables or salad leaves, microgreens are safe to eat raw when stored or handled correctly. At Tasty Micros we grow our microgreens in a controlled clean environment and take every precaution when handling them. However, we do still recommend washing your microgreens before consuming them to be absolutely safe!
